Clinics
FOCUS Pre-Optometry club is partnered with Flying Samaritans and SCCO and WUCO
Optometry schools to provide free optometry clinics in Tecate, Mexico. Volunteers are
selected through FOCUS so please let us know if you are interested!
​At these clinics, SDSU undergraduate student volunteers help patients select glasses, as well as take pupillary distance measurements (the measurement of distance between the pupils) and segment height measurements (in bifocals, the measurement from the bottom of the lens to the lower lash line).
Optometry students conduct disease screening tests and refraction tests, under the supervision of a licensed optometrist.
*Since COVID-19 halted all in-person activities and limited our ability to travel, we were unable
to assist in clinics for 2020 and 2021; We instead sent 75 care packages to the people of Tecate, Mexico*
